Lara Abbiss Stubbs
Cellist
“ Although I was basically happy with my cello and had developed an affection for it over the years, I knew that it didn't project its sound as well as it should, and I was also disappointed with the way the varnish had chipped so badly. Initially, I started looking for a replacement, but the cellos I tried, which were within my budget, did not sound as nice as my existing one. My father found Beecher Acoustics in the Yellow Pages and we made an appointment with Jonathan to discuss the possibility of renovating my existing cello. Jonathan Beecher listened to me play and identified a few improvements that could be made to my cello that would really improve its quality of sound and projection. He also assured me that, with some careful work on the varnish, he would be able to improve my cello's appearance.
I decided to go ahead with the work and was seriously happy with the results; both my cello tutor and the conductor of the orchestra that I belong to have remarked on the vast improvement in the sound of my cello, and this has given me a renewed enthusiasm in my playing. The cello responds to the more dramatic aspects of my playing, giving a remarkable richness of sound.
I would really recommend Jonathan Beecher to anyone considering having their string instrument renovated - the whole experience was very enjoyable with a brilliant end result.”
